This evening at 7pm there will be a #waveoflight to mark International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day🌎

This will be my 18th year of lighting a candle and I thought I would post publicly, as despite the huge numbers of people who experience this, there is still a stigma and shame attached to baby loss. The battle of the rational that recognises that you are not responsible and the unbearable ache that somehow you have failed. This may not be the experience of all but it is certainly mine.

In January 2002 I had a miscarriage at 17 weeks. In December 2002, my son Ben was stillborn. It was hard and continues to be so. There were days when I couldn't function. There were days when I simply slept. My grief was huge. People moved on and I felt stuck and angry. For a long time.

The one thing that made it all more bearable was when people asked about him. Asked his name. For me, acknowledging him was so much better than those who crossed the street because they didn't know what to say. I totally understand why but this further compounded feelings of failure for me. I would rather people said the wrong thing than nothing.

I grew around the grief and absorbed it into my life in just the same way as I had carried my babies.

In 2005 Lily and Grace were born. My double rainbow. But that wasn't easy either. The fear of losing them meant that I struggled to fully let myself love them for the first year. Because sometimes rainbows arrive when it's still raining.

Time has passed and the laughter has returned and the pain has eased. I am proud that I got to be their mum.

The reason for laying myself bare here is to break the taboo. To say that we are a safe space and that one day you will feel like the sun has risen again. And if you know someone who has experienced this, please be kind and understand the depth of grief is not for the person they were, but for the person they would have become.

My loss has allowed me to help other people who have been through the same and, in turn, this has helped me see that there is no footprint too small that it cannot leave a huge imprint on the world 📖🐛🐉❤

Another fab bounce and rhyme session this morning and lots of smiley faces 😀 I must admit that when we opened the shop, I never envisioned that I would be running bounce and rhyme session 3 times a week and seeing 60 babies and their lovely parents and carers! Each one is an absolute joy 😍 It is such a privilege to watch your little ones grow and develop and I am very grateful to jump around like a loony and be a tiny part of their lives.
